Master Communication and Digital Technologies

The Master

The Master 2 CELSA-MINES Communication and Digital Technology, called CTN, is a state diploma awarded to high-level professionals with dual competences in Information and Communication Sciences and Digital Technology. It is co-accredited by CELSA Sorbonne University (which has the status of “a Grande Ecole” within the Sorbonne) and IMT Mines Alès (schools of the Institute Mines-Télécom).

The courses are taught by teams of teacher-researchers from both institutions and professionals who bring their vision of the industry. The CELSA professors are particularly involved in teaching Humanities and Social Sciences, and those of IMT Mines Alès in the Digital Technologies field.

All courses are taught in Alès, at the Croupillac site, in brand new building. Students have access to all the equipment necessary for the learning process (computers, teaching and audiovisual material, etc.).

It should be noted that students in the CTN Master's program benefit from the dual status of Sorbonne and IMT, which allows them, for example, to live in the Ecole des Mines student accomodation, but also to have access to the CELSA Career Center, where companies post numerous internship and job offers. Once they graduate, they can join the two Alumni networks: the CELSA alumni network and the IMT Mines Alès network.

The course dates

The course has two main periods during the year.

From September to February: six months of study, during which students follow all their courses and work in teams on multimedia projects proposed by external sponsors.
Each class is made up of professionals in further education and students in initial training. There is a variety of different profiles which reinforces the diversity within the Master's program and contributes to the richness of the group work.
Through the learning of a number of digital technologies (applications, websites ...), but also communication strategies, the Master CELSA-MINES teaches students :

  • The evaluation of communication strategies of organizations,
  • The development of multimedia communication strategies,
  • The supervision of the technical implementation of a multimedia project.

From March: baptism of fire! A 3 to 6 month internship in a company completes the curriculum. This experience is a real opportunity for students to choose their future sector of activity. There are many internship opportunities in large luxury or audiovisual companies and agencies or industrial companies such as: L'Oréal, LVMH, Chanel, Hermès, TF1, C+, M6, Publicis, BETC, TOTAL, VINCI, ADP, etc.

The common thread of the master's program is: the research paper. The thesis is written throughout the course. It is handed in and defended at the end of the year (between September and early November). Students are supervised by a university author and a professional tutor. Through different approaches and the questioning or resources used, the objective is to bring something new to a subject related to digital communication. It is chosen with regard to personal interest, its relevance and its feasibility ... Starting  from a research problem, it is essential to analyze the facts in the broadest sense seeking to validate (or not) the initial hypotheses, while making recommendations that could be applied in a professional situation.
