A major challenge dedicated to the fight against ovarian cancer was launched in Montpellier in April 2025. Organized by the PINKCC Lab under the auspices of SIRIC Montpellier Cancer, the challenge brought together over 250 participants (grouped into 42 teams) over the course of 10 weeks. By bringing together experts and researchers in medicine, AI, and cancer imaging, the aim of this unprecedented project was to advance the assessment of tumor spread and improve patient care.
The challenge for the teams was to use AI to develop an innovative algorithm for diagnosing ovarian cancer by automating the detection of cancerous cells in scans. Selected alongside 20 other teams for the final, which took place on June 13, our researchers presented their results and earned a third-place finish.
“The competition was intense, with highly motivated teams all offering cutting-edge solutions. We are very happy with this result and want to congratulate the teams who took the top spots on the podium, as they truly pushed methodological boundaries. A huge thank you to the organizers, we’re looking forward to the next edition!”
Despite medical advances, ovarian cancer remains the 4th leading cause of cancer-related death among women. This mortality is largely due to the disease being diagnosed at an advanced stage, making continued research in this field particularly crucial. In this regard, we especially congratulate and thank our researchers for their contribution to this important project.
